See the full story · 1 sourcesCALLAWAY, Fla. — The Panama City Panthers relied on a dominant defense and a punishing rushing attack to defeat the Alabama Wardawgs, 18-0, in semi-professional football action at Gore Park on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The victory improved the Panthers to 4-1 in the Gridiron Developmental Football League and marked their second consecutive shutout. Panama City has outscored opponents 50-0 over its past two games.
Running back Triston McCathern opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run, giving the Panthers a 6-0 lead. Panama City’s defense, led by cornerback Travis King III and Dontell Baxter, limited the Wardawgs’ offensive production throughout the night. Defensive ends Devyn Thompkins and Treysean Prentice each recorded two sacks.

Running back Tyliek Mears extended the Panthers’ advantage with a 10-yard touchdown run to the right side of the end zone, pushing the lead to 12-0. The defense continued to apply pressure, with cornerback Bob Taylor intercepting a Wardawgs pass to halt another scoring opportunity.
Panama City put the game away late in the fourth quarter when defensive lineman Ty Oates delivered the final blow. Thompkins forced a fumble on a Wardawgs possession, and Oates recovered the loose ball before racing 53 yards for a touchdown, sealing the Panthers’ 18-0 victory. With the win, Panama City improved to 3-1 all time against its rival.
The Panthers (4-1) will return to action this Saturday, Aug. 8, traveling to face the defending league champions, Huntsville Rockets (2-2).
