In his interview with Easton Jr., Kiffin, who stars in the new Dr Pepper Fansville commercial trailer for Season 9, discussed his role in the video, which plays off his offseason decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU. He commented on Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's many years of success in the NFL.
"They brought it up and had an idea. They did a great job, came up with some ideas, and it was really exciting to be out there. I'd never done something like that, and to see how much time goes into it, I was thinking about it when someone else asked me about that, and I was like, well, that's what people always say," said Kiffin. They come to games or practice, and they're like, man, we never realized how much went into coaching. We just thought, like, you're out there and call plays, and they don't understand all the time the thoughts and all the people involved to go through it. That's how I felt, because you watch a 30-second commercial. You're like, yeah, they just probably shot it, like probably a couple takes, probably took 10 minutes, and so to see how much goes into it is really amazing."
Kiffin, who was head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 2007 to 2008, understands the pressures of NFL coaching. He praised Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's long-term success and his status as the league's oldest head coach entering the 2026 season.
"Yeah, I think anytime people can do things great once, and have a great year, hit them. Everything goes right that year, A great quarterback, but when you've done it, like he (Andy Reid) has (with) multiple teams over so many years, shows how great he is and how legendary he is as a coach to be able to do that in a time that rarely anybody does," said Kiffin, "because now coaches get fired faster than ever, NFL especially one year in college now two three years and so this profession very few people will be able to stay somewhere that long like that."
From preseason optimism to transfer portal drama and game-day superstitions, Dr Pepper's newest season reflects the year-round passion that makes college football unlike any other sport. Fansville begins airing Saturday, September 5, on ESPN.
