Injuries continue to pile up for the Detroit Lions as one of their veteran running backs is now expected to be sidelined with after suffering knee injury.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter , Lions running back Isiah Pacheco sprained his MCL during the team's latest training camp practice. Head coach Dan Campbell believes Pacheco should be ready for the regular-season opener, though.
Pacheco, 27, just joined the Lions on a one-year deal in free agency after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
During that span, he rushed for 2,537 yards and 14 touchdowns and reeled in 88 catches for 554 yards and three more scores while helping the Chiefs win two Super Bowls.
If Pacheco is able to return for the Lions regular-season opener, it will certainly be a win. Detroit added Pacheco to help replace running back David Montgomery, who joined the Houston Texans in free agency.
However, outside of Pacheco, it's quite thin for the Lions with former fourth-round pick Sione Vaki and undrafted free agent Jacob Saylors rounding out the room.
In the scenario that Pacheco were to have to miss more time, the Lions would likely add another veteran to the room, but it's safe to say they like how Pacheco complements featured running back Jahmyr Gibbs better than who else is still available.
Pacheco was selected with the No. 251 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Rutgers, where he rushed for 2,442 yards and 18 touchdowns from 2018-21.
