The New York Mets are going to sell at the 2026 MLB trade deadline, and they have plenty of players who should be able to garner interest this summer.
Of the potential trade targets, none stand out more than Freddy Peralta. The former All-Star right-handed starter is someone who should draw significant interest. That is, if it weren't for a terrible 4.99 ERA this season.
Andy McCullough of The Athletic gave the Mets a bitter reality check, revealing that he would be stunned if the Mets found a way to recoup the value that they spent to acquire Peralta over the offseason in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers .

"Well, I can put it this way. It would be stunning if the Mets received a return package for Peralta that can match, in terms of surplus value, the package they sent to Milwaukee to acquire him," McCullough writes.
While teams will show interest in Peralta at this August 3's MLB trade deadline, the chance that the Mets land someone akin to what they gave up over the offseason for him is slim to none.
Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat were a large package for Peralta, and are not going to be something the Mets could get this summer for the veteran right-hander.
He's a rental starter who has a 4.99 ERA this season. His 84 ERA+ is the worst mark of his MLB career, and with a 1.478 WHIP and allowing 9.5 hits-per-nine, the Mets starter is not having a good season whatsoever.

Besides, his strikeouts-per-nine have dropped under 9.0 to an 8.9, more than two full strikeouts per-nine than his previous career-average heading into this season.
All of that to say, the Mets are going to be hard-pressed to land a high-quality return for Peralta, let alone one close to what they gave up for him over the offseason.
They should still be able to land something decent for Peralta, as he's still a starting pitcher with All-Star upside that had a 2.70 ERA and 17 wins just last season with the Brewers.
But, unfortunately for the Mets, the ship has sailed, and there's just about no way for them to recoup the trade value spent to acquire Peralta.
