The Las Vegas Raiders have been relatively unscathed through training camp and the preseason this summer, yet, Sunday, exactly three weeks before they start the regular season the team may have been delivered a major blow as second-year starting running back Ashton Jeanty had to leave practice with an injury to his right leg.
According to multiple media reports, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 draft went down awkwardly after diving for a pass in the team-practice period. He was down on the field for some time as the entire team took a knee and prayed in silence. He was helped off the field by trainers.
The team did not have an immediate update on Jeanty.
The team has big expecatitons for Jeanty in the both the running and passing game. If he has to miss time, rookie Mike Washington, who has looked great in the preseason, would likely move into the starting role. Las Vegas has been planning to use Jeanty and Washington as a potent 1-2 punch.
In other practice notes:
They were inside Sunday afternoon and had a padded practice. Guard Jackson Powers-Johnson was back to work after getting banged up last Monday. He rotated with Caleb Rogers as he was doing before being injured.
Wide receiver Dont’e Thornton is still not back. Coach Klint Kubiak had said he’d play in the preseason, but time is getting short with the finale in four days. Tight end Carter Runyon remained out. Safety Treydan Stukes got extensive reps with the first team defense.
