The Indianapolis Colts acquired Mekhi Blackmon last offseason from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick on August 25. Due to injuries, Blackmon led the position in snaps last season despite starting only 11 games. He totaled 64 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections across 17 games and 783 snaps . The former third-round pick allowed 515 passing yards, three touchdowns, and an 88.8 passer rating in coverage, per NFL Pro.
With Sauce Gardner , Charvarius Ward, and Justin Walley returning from injury and the Colts signing Cam Taylor-Britt, Blackmon has fallen out of the rotation and struggled during training camp, including committing four penalties in the first two preseason games.

On X, the Colts announced that they have waived Mekhi Blackmon after a year with the team. Since he is still on his rookie contract, Blackmon will be subject to waivers for the next 24 hours, and if claimed, the team would inherit a one-year, $3.674 million contract. If he clears waivers, he will become an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team.
