Players have tried to take over the mantle left by Brees, but even when no one expected them to be at Brees' level, they still couldn't solidify that position for the Saints. But with Shough now in the starting spot, there is hope that the second-round QB can fix that position for New Orleans, and he has the backing of Brees.

Brees speaking so highly of Shough is something Saints fans should be excited for, and it seems there's real belief that the young QB could be the guy in New Orleans. The former Saints QB went on to talk about Shough's leadership being an important factor in his success and how the Saints have built the offense so he can succeed: "I think he's got some natural leadership ability. The guys seem to gravitate to him. And now in his second year in the offense, you add a weapon like Jordyn Tyson to go along with (Chris) Olave and some of the other guys that they have — Juwan Johnson, Alvin Kamara's coming back, and you go out and sign Travis Etienne."
As I mentioned earlier, the offense has been built for Shough to succeed, and unless some major injuries occur, the pressure will be on the young QB. But pressure makes diamonds, and hopefully Shough can come out of this as the franchise QB.
