The England international set the Blues back a cool £117 million, edging out the £116 million Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson, making him the most expensive English footballer of all time.
Rogers is Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, taking their gross spend so far to £222 million. It is just the third time they have spent over £100 million on a player, but few would bet against them doing it again in the future.

5. Mykhailo Mudryk – £88.5m
One of the most disastrous signings in Premier League history, Chelsea beat London rivals Arsenal to the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk in January 2023. They spent nearly £90 million to buy him from Shakhtar Donetsk, but it has turned out to be a massive waste of money.
The speedy winger failed to impress on the pitch and he’s had troubles off it, earning a four-year ban for doping. He still has five years left to run on his contract.

4. Romelu Lukaku – £97.5m
Romelu Lukaku has enjoyed a successful career at the top level of the game, winning a number of trophies and scoring many goals. It’s just that very few of them came during either of his two spells at Stamford Bridge.
The Belgian striker joined Chelsea when he was 18, but only went to make 10 Premier League appearances, scoring no goals, before being sold to Everton. He went to have a moderately decent scoring record at Manchester United before joining Inter Milan, for whom he played a key role in winning the Scudetto in 2021.
Chelsea decided it was time to bring him home for a then club record fee of £97.5 million. But for whatever reason, he was unable to recreate the goalscoring form he had showed at other clubs, netting just eight goals in the Premier League in 2021/22. He spent the next two seasons out on loan before joining Napoli permanently, and helped them to an historic Serie A title win in 2025.
3. Enzo Fernandez – £106.8m
After making a key contribution to Argentina’s FIFA World Cup win in December 2022, Enzo Fernandez became one of the hottest properties on the transfer market. Chelsea immediately set about acquiring the midfielder, who had only joined Benfica in June of that year for a fraction of the price they were now demanding.
The west London outfit had to shell out just under £107 million for Fernandez, though he has turned out to be a good signing, if maybe a bit overpriced.

2. Moises Caicedo – £115m
In the same year Chelsea bought Fernandez, they broke the £100 million barrier again for another midfielder. Moises Caicedo cost an initial £100 million plus £15m in add-ons to prise him from Brighton, but he’s turned out to be fully worth it.
Although it took the Ecuadorian a little is now one of the team’s most important players, forming a strong partnership with Fernandez in the middle of the park.
1. Morgan Rogers – £117m
It remains to be seen whether Rogers will be a success or justify the humongous transfer fee at Chelsea, or even how he will fit into the team given he plays a similar role to Cole Palmer. But the 24-year-old is a strong, energetic player with an eye for goal with whom Xabi Alonso will relish working.
