The Philadelphia Eagles rejoiced during the 2026 NFL draft after they traded a few draft picks to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for Pro Bowl edge-rusher Jonathan Greenard.
But on the opening day of training camp, the Eagles were hit with some pretty difficult news regarding their newest pass-rushing weapon.
“#Eagles pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard, who was acquired in a trade this offseason and received a 4-year, $100M contract, recently suffered a pectoral injury while lifting and will begin training camp on the PUP list,” Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team posted on X. “The team believes the injury is not significant and he should be back sooner than later.”
The 29-year-old Greenard had a down season last year in Minnesota, totaling just t47 pressures, 35 hurries, and three sacks, per Pro Football Focus. However, he posted back-to-back years of 12 or more sacks and 53 or more pressures in 2023 and 2024.
Getting him healthy and back on the field will be vital to the Eagles’ success next year — something general manager Howie Roseman didn’t seem too worried about.
“One of the things we know about Greenard is he's going to be ready to play,” Roseman said , via ESPN. “Training camp is so important, practice is so important, but when you have a guy that prepares the way he does, who has the experience in the NFL the way he does, you know he's going to be ready to play when we start the season.”
If Greenard misses any significant time, the pass-rushing responsibilities will fall on defensive ends Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and A.J. Epenesa plus defensive tackles Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Moro Ojomo.
