Superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett was unavailable for the Los Angeles Rams ' joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday due to swelling in his knee.
Rams head coach Sean McVay pacified concerns about the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, telling reporters that his absence comes out of an abundance of caution.
McVay said Garrett told him he's at about 85% as he prepares to take the field for his first season with the Rams in 2026.
"Sean McVay says Myles Garrett did not participate in joint practice with Cowboys today due to swelling in his knee. McVay says Garrett is 85% but the approach is to err on the side of caution with their new star player," ESPN's Lindsey Thiry reported from joint practice on Tuesday.
The Rams landed Garrett in a league-altering, blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason, sending Jared Verse and multiple future draft picks in exchange for the generational talent. Last year, Garrett broke the all-time single-season sack record with 23.
The Rams will kickoff against the Kansas City Chiefs in their preseason opener at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.
