Cubs Linked to 3 Relievers Ahead of Trade Deadline

While the Cubs' top need is starting pitching help, they should also be looking to boost their bullpen. Due to this, they are now being connected to three notable trade candidate relief pitchers.
In a recent article for The Athletic , Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma named Adrian Morejon, Luke Weaver, and Jeff Hoffman as three relievers who the Cubs have on their radar.
"If the Cubs don’t splurge on the rotation, they could go big with a bullpen addition or two — Adrian Morejon, Luke Weaver, and Jeff Hoffman are among the names under consideration — that moves the needle," Mooney and Sharma wrote.
Morejon would certainly be a nice pickup for the Cubs if acquired. The 5-foot-11 lefty is having a strong year for the San Diego Padres, as he has an 8-2 record, a 3.07 ERA, and 67 strikeouts in 51 appearances. This is after he had a 13-6 record, a 2.08 ERA, and 70 strikeouts in 75 appearances as an All-Star in 2025.
With the Mets being among the worst teams in baseball, Weaver's name has been creating a lot of chatter in the rumor mill. The 6-foot-2 righty is having a very good season for New York, as evidenced by his 2-1 record, 1.88 ERA, and 44 strikeouts. With numbers like these, he would be another big addition for the Cubs if brought in.
As for Hoffman, he has a 6-7 record, a 3.94 ERA, and 75 strikeouts in 51 games for the Toronto Blue Jays this season. The former All-Star reliever has notably been heating up as the season has gone on, though, so he could be worth bringing in for the Cubs.
