Former USC Trojan legend and top NFL defensive tackle Leonard Williams got a payday that reinforces his value. Leonard Williams and the Seattle Seahawks agreed to a 3-year, $ 90 million contract, which now makes him one of the highest-paid defensive tackles in the NFL.
As was the case at USC, Leonard Williams has been a cornerstone piece for the Seahawks. Though on the north side of 30, his play since joining Seattle has reached even more dominant levels.
In his first full season with the Seahawks, Williams had 64 total tackles and 11 sacks. Insane stats for an interior guy, but that is the production that cements him as one of the best in the game. This past season, Williams remained a force and was the heartbeat on an elite Seattle Seahawks defense. Williams had 7 sacks and 62 tackles. He still wreaked havoc in backfields, stopping the run and making quarterbacks fear for their lives on a week-to-week basis. That is exactly what he did in the Super Bowl against Drake Maye to help the Seahawks come out victorious in a resounding win.
The Seahawks have prioritized Williams, and his contract is well deserved. Williams will now be locked in for the next few years, as he is aging even better with time. He and other Trojan alumni, Sam Darnold, Uchenna Nwosu, and Brandon Pili, will look to defend their title and try to add another championship to their belt this year. Nonetheless, it seems like those Trojans will always be in a position to win on the Seahawks.
