The Mariners have the chance to do something dumb tonight.
After a month of terrible baseball and losing three-of-four to the Rangers over the weekend, it wouldn’t have been weird for the Mariners to get swept by the Dodgers. But the Mariners played an exceptionally entertaining game last night to narrowly take one from the LADs. The last time they beat the Dodgers in Los Angeles was 2009, as our Jake Mailhot notes . They can take a series victory today, which would put them in a better spot ahead of the trade deadline and a crucial nine-game homestand.
On the mound is Emerson Hancock. This could very well be his last start in a Mariners uniform, as the team is anonymously reported to be interested in trading from their rotation. Cool.
Colt Emerson is back in the lineup, implying whatever kept him out of the game yesterday has run its course. The Mariners will face another left — this time Eric Lauer — meaning Rob Refsnyder and Weston Wilson precede Emerson in the order.
