Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Rypien is signing with his ninth team in eight seasons.
Rypien, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019, signed with the Houston Texans on Saturday. The move came two days after 2025 sixth-round pick Graham Mertz tore his ACL in Houston's preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
After bouncing around the NFL as a backup throughout his career, Rypien has remained unsigned since March. He spent the final three weeks of the 2025 season with the Vikings, his second stint with the team after serving as a backup in 2024 behind Sam Darnold, Nick Mullens, and Daniel Jones.
In Houston, Rypien will serve as QB3 behind C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills. Rypien has appeared in 11 games throughout his career, starting four, completing 58.3% of his passes for 950 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
