Vala Kitchen brings authentic Persian cuisine and hospitality to Hollywood, with juicy chicken, koobideh, lamb shank, Persian rice dishes and more. HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- In the heart of Hollywood, you'll find Vala Kitchen , where Persian cuisine and hospitality meet.
Owners Farrouz Asgharzadeh and her husband, Mo, left their corporate lives behind to bring authentic Persian flavor and a bit of Persian culture to Hollywood.
"We wanted to bring the Persian food with Persian hospitality, a little bit of our culture here in this area for the neighbors," Farrouz said.
The couple opened Vala Kitchen two years ago in the historic Gower Gulch Plaza. They say every dish is made with love, passion and plenty of patience.
Persian food is also a great option for anyone looking for flavorful dishes that are lower in fat.
"The concept of the Persian food is to be healthy," one diner said.
Among the best sellers are the Vala chicken and the combo koobideh, featuring one skewer of ground beef and one of ground chicken, with a generous helping of rice.
Choose from classic white rice, cherry rice or Loubia Polo, a flavorful rice dish cooked with beef.
The menu also features filet mignon cooked in tomato sauce with Persian spices.
The fall-off-the-bone lamb shank is another standout among the restaurant's favorites.
Vala Kitchen is open for lunch and dinner every day and also offers beer, wine and lunch specials priced around $20.
For Farrouz, seeing customers enjoy the food makes it all worthwhile.
"It makes us happy that I feel like, okay, we're doing it right," she said.
Vala Kitchen opens at 11 a.m. every day at 6110 Sunset Blvd., in Los Angeles.
