Chargers training camp: 1 player to watch at each offensive position
The Chargers ' offense enters the 2026 season in an interesting spot. They have obvious cornerstone pieces, specifically at the quarterback position with Justin Herbert under center.
On top of that, their backfield, with running back Omarion Hampton, seems to be in a good spot for years to come. However, beyond that, there are some glaring questions that will certainly be answered soon enough.
With training camp slowly approaching, here is the one player to watch on the offensive side of the ball for each position group.
Quarterback: Justin Herbert
This is the obvious choice. Herbert enters the season as the undisputed leader of the offense and is poised for a massive 2026 season under new coordinator Mike McDaniel.
Talent has never been a question for the former Offensive Rookie of the Year, but rather whether he is the quarterback who can enter the MVP conversation and take his team to new heights.
There is no excuse this upcoming season. The Chargers have surrounded him with more talent and the staff than at any point in his career, and the expectations are higher than ever.
Will the offensive line stay healthy to keep him upright? Will he be more aggressive down the field? Can he elevate the receivers around him? Those are the types of questions that need to be answered this fall.
Running Back: Keaton Mitchell
Signed in free agency, Mitchell could be the perfect complement to Omarion Hampton, matching his explosiveness.
The 24-year-old enters Los Angeles with elite speed and an ability to turn a routine play into a touchdown. Mitchell has a chance to raise the Chargers' floor on offense and in the running back room.
The question surrounding Mitchell is whether he can stay healthy after dealing with injuries. If so, he'll be a big part of the offense.
Wide Receiver: Tre' Harris
All eyes may be on Quentin Johnston regarding the wide receiver room, but Harris is probably the biggest wild card here.
The Chargers invested in Harris early in last year's draft because of his physical profile and his ability to make plays downfield. If Harris can take his game to the next level, the wide receiver core could be one of the top units on the team.
Harris has a great chance to challenge Johnston for targets and possibly be the true No. 2 wide receiver by season's end.
Tight End: David Njoku
Njoku is the proven veteran in the group and could have the bigger immediate impact to start the season.
The Chargers have lacked a consistent, difference-making tight end for much of Herbert's career. Oronde Gadsden II showed flashes of being that difference-maker at tight end. Can Njoku fit right in and bolster the tight end room even more?
That's one thing to look for in a few weeks. Njoku signed a one-year deal with Los Angeles in March.
Offensive Line: Tyler Biadasz
The tackle positions are set with Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt, but the biggest question mark entering 2026 could be what happens in the interior.
Biadasz was added to the club this offseason in hopes that he will bring stability at the center position for the first time since Corey Linsley a few years back. The Chargers invested heavily in rebuilding the interior, and veteran is a piece who could determine how effective that unit could be.
