48 days till Arizona Cardinals' opener: Remembering the 1948 season
We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals ' regular season. Today, Monday, July 27, is 48 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
With 48 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 1948 season for the Cardinals.
The 1948 season was great! After their 1947 championship, they were again in first place in their division, going 11-1. However, in the championship game, they were shut out 7-0 by the Philadelphia Eagles .
The Cardinals had the league's number one offense in yards and points, averaging 32.9 points per game. Their only regular-season loss was in Week 2 to the Chicago Bears , and then they rattled off 10 straight wins.

The Cardinals had three first-team All-Pros:
RB Charley Trippi
WR Mal Kutner
OL Buster Ramsey
Ray Mallouf was the Cardinals' leading passer. He passed 1,160 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Trippi averaged a league-leading 5.4 yards per attempt and led the team with 690 rushing yards, scoring six touchdowns. He added 22 catches for 228 yards and two touchdowns.
Elmer Angsman rushed for 638 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns.
Kutner had 41 receptions and led the NFL with 943 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. His 15 total touchdowns also led the league.
Trippi also returned two punts for touchdowns. Jerry Davis led the NFL in both punt return average (20.9 yards) and kick return average (29.1). He returned two punts for touchdowns.
Red Cochran had a team-leading seven defensive interceptions.
