The blaze, dubbed the Wood Fire, erupted just before 1 p.m. near Rider Street and Dreamglo Lane in unincorporated Perris, according to Cal Fire.
It was unclear whether any structures were threatened or damaged.
Fire officials said evacuations were issued for the area near Cajalco and Wood roads.
According to an evacuation alert , the fire was moving toward Highway 74, and residents in the area were being asked to leave immediately.
