The Washington Commanders ' offensive line sustained a second injury during Saturday's training camp workouts. The Commanders' starting left tackle, All-Pro Laremy Tunsil, injured his upper left arm/shoulder/neck. Tests later revealed the worst possible news: Tunsil had suffered a torn pec .

(@pomyexpress21) August 8, 2026 Not only have the Commanders already suffered injuries to two starters on their offensive line, but now one must ask: is there evidence that head coach Dan Quinn and/or GM Adam Peters might not be pleased with the offensive line depth? The Commanders have brought in three linemen on Saturday who are not merely camp bodies hired to attempt to fill all the reps and preseason game reps. The fact that it was not one but three signings really does raise eyebrows.
But hey, that is the prerogative of both Quinn and Peters. They are professionals attempting to improve the roster depth. Might they be looking to replace some of last season's backups along the offensive line? What is interesting is that the three players brought in are a center (Daniel Brunskill), a guard (Max Scharping), and a tackle (Nicholas Petit-Frere). So, at the least, they wanted another competitor at each position.
Not to be overlooked is the Commanders' blocking tight end, John Bates, who is already out with an injury that occurred very early in training camp, resulting in Quinn saying Bates would be out at least a couple of weeks. It seems fair to ask, "Are Peters and Quinn concerned about the protection for franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels?"
These three moves were made prior to Tunsil being injured Saturday. Scharping has appeared in games for the Texans (2019-21), the Bengals (2022-23) and Steelers (2024). Petit-Frere, a former Ohio State Buckeye, played for the Titans (2022-24). Brunskill's NFL game experience has come with the 49ers (2019-22), Titans (2023-24) and Dolphins (2025).
At least the Commanders have tackles Andrew Wylie and Brandon Coleman who have proven to be good backups. But the Commanders at center have real question marks. Remember, new starter Nick Allegretti went down with a calf strain the first day of training camp. Quinn last week said he was still a week away. Then today, Quinn again expressed that Allegretti is still a week away. 2024 and 2025 starter Tyler Biadasz was released this offseason and signed with the Chargers. Julian Good-Jones has basically been a career practice squad member, appearing only in a single 2023 game for Washington. The Commanders also have Matt Gulbin, whom they drafted in April with the 209th overall selection.
Guard Timothy McKay was really hyped last year during training camp. Saturday, the Commanders released McKay. Literally, McKay was said to be a great undrafted free agent signing by Peters out of North Carolina State. This year, McKay was to challenge for a roster spot. However, he didn't even make it to the first scrimmage. Yes, the Commanders' scrimmage with the Dolphins on Wednesday followed by their first preseason game on Friday.
