Casemiro opens up on playing alongside Lionel Messi following Inter Miami debut

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro’s MLS career got off to a strong start on Saturday, with the Brazilian playing the full 90 minutes as Inter Miami recorded their sixth consecutive league win.
Lined up alongside Telasco Segovia at the heart of Guillermo Hoyos’s midfield, with Argentine international Rodrigo De Paul yet to return following the FIFA World Cup, the 34-year-old helped the Herons beat CF Montréal 1-0, courtesy of a Luis Suárez penalty with just nine minutes of regulation remaining.
Suárez’s ninth goal of the season; the 39-year-old is currently Miami’s leading goal threat, with Lionel Messi also yet to return to Florida.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the side co-owned by David Beckham, with Mexico international striker Germán Berterame hospitalized, having collapsed after he collided with Efraín Morales' elbow in the 70th minute. Suárez dedicated his goal to his teammate, holding up the 27-year-old’s jersey after scoring his penalty.
On Sunday, Miami said in a statement, “Berterame is doing well. He was discharged from the hospital today and is returning home after spending the night under observation at Montreal General Hospital.
“He sustained injuries to his left shoulder and nose as a result of the hard blow he suffered during the match. He will begin the corresponding recovery process in the coming days under the supervision of the Club's medical staff.”
As for Casemiro, he spoke with Apple TV after the game, admitting that he was “very happy” and that while it would take time for him to fully adapt, the players had already been very helpful in this regard,

Looking ahead, the five-time UEFA Champions League winner said he was “someone who likes to stay humble and work hard; that's what I want to help my teammates through hard work and dedication.
“It’s true that I focus a bit more on the defensive side, so I just want to help my teammates in any way I can. But especially on the defensive side, to bring balance to the team. That's what I want.
“And of course, I want to help. Especially the attacking players, the ones up front who have more freedom to play and a lot of quality. We have a player who is one of the best of all time, so that’s why we have to help him. We have a great team. We need to keep improving, but we remain strong.”
Clearly excited to get to work with Messi in the near future, Casemiro appears to already be enjoying this next chapter in his storied career, posting on social media, “The best start in the MLS !!! #InterMiami”
Exactly when Messi and De Paul will return to Miami is not clear, with both not participating in the ongoing MLS All-Star preparations ahead of Wednesday’s game in Charlotte. The same cannot be said of the likes of Thomas Müller and Son Heung-min, both of whom are in North Carolina ahead of the match against the Liga MX All-Stars.
