The San Francisco 49ers were destroyed by injuries last year, and one of the most impactful was the loss of defensive end Nick Bosa, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear just three weeks into their 2025 campaign.
With the five-time Pro Bowler having surgery in the middle of the season, he started training camp off without an injury designation, as the team eased him back into practice. However, he's missed recent sessions due to soreness.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media on Tuesday and revealed that Bosa has tendinitis in the knee that he had surgery on this offseason, which is what has kept him off the field. Shanahan said that Bosa is week-to-week at this point.
This is rough news, as Bosa has had three ACL surgeries in his life, and just a couple of weeks ago, he told the MMQB's Albert Breer that they cleaned up some tendinitis that he had in that knee during the surgery this offseason. Bosa believed that once he was fully done with rehab and going full speed, his knee would actually feel better than before this last tear.
San Francisco has an aging roster, and they need to get the most out of their best players in 2026 if they want to accomplish their goals before their window slams shut. Bosa is near the top of that list.
