Jets' Breece Hall looking to continue 'proving' himself after contract extension: 'It makes me more hungry
Last summer, all of the talk surrounding Jets running back Breece Hall was about him entering the final year of his rookie contract and if it would be his last season in New York.
Hall played just seven games during his rookie season in 2022 before suffering a torn ACL and flashed his star ability over the next two seasons, but the two sides had yet to come to a long term agreement. He then went out and showed his value throughout the 2025 season, rushing for a career-high 1,065 yards with four touchdowns and becoming the first Jets running back since Chris Ivory in 2015 to run for 1,000 yards.
And while it may have taken longer than expected this offseason, Hall was rewarded as New York and the running back were able to agree to a three-year, $45.75 million contract extension on May 8 . Now heading his fifth season in the NFL, Hall wants to keep proving he deserves to be in the position he's earned.
"Obviously, I'm blessed and very happy to still be here. I'm only 25, so I'm still very young. Like I said, I love my deal, but I also feel like my deal is partially for me it makes me more hungry to keep proving that I am who I say I am," Hall said. "It's making me want to do more than what I've done in the past, obviously.
"I feel like I have all the talent and the capabilities to do certain things in this league, but I haven't always been in the position. Now I feel like we're finally getting ourselves in position for me and Garrett [ Wilson ] to really flourish and spread our wings so we can do what we know we can do."
Despite his age, the former second-round pick mentioned that 'it's crazy' he's become one of the veteran players on the team already. But with that comes responsibility and expectations.
Hall believes the Jets have a stronger and more complete team and group of coaches around than in the past to help him 'showcase everything' he can do on the field.
"For me, I've always felt like, I may not be the most talented, but I'm one of the more talented guys in the league," Hall said. "Haven't always been in the best situations for me to really showcase everything I can do. I feel like we have a lot of pieces around us that'll make my life easier, make Garrett's life easier. Make it to where defenses have to defend more than just us.
"I definitely think coming into this year, for me it's the same, I want to go out there and essentially I'm competing with Garrett. Who's gonna be the best player on our offense? That's how I think every day. Obviously, that's my brother and we support each other to the fullest. But for us, it's like, we're always in this mini competition. Like, 'Let's go have fun, but today I want to be the best player that we got on the offense.' It definitely pushes you to be a bit better.
"Then you got a player like Braelon [ Allen ] and Isaiah [ Davis ], who, they want to come take my spot, too. For me, it's like, OK, I got to come out here and put my best foot forward and prove that I'm the best out here every day."
Hall and the Jets will get their first test to show they can compete when they face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a preseason game on Aug. 14, ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Tennessee Titans and former coach Robert Saleh on Sept. 13.
