Josh Allen Says He's Never Seen a Bills Team Like This Before

Josh Allen has spent nine training camps with the Buffalo Bills , all of them at St. John Fisher University. But according to the Bills quarterback, there's something different he noticed about this year's group.
The Bills' final camp practice took place Friday before the team heads back to Buffalo to prepare for its preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the new Highmark Stadium. The Panthers are coming off a narrow 33-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday in Canton, Ohio.
Speaking after Friday's practice , Allen said one of his biggest takeaways from this year's camp is how close the team is compared to years past.
"This group from offense to defense is the tightest-knit group that I've been around really since I've entered the league," Allen said. "The defense is meshing so well together. Just even when you walk in the dorm room or walk in the cafeteria, guys are sitting down, talking, really getting to know each other. There's just a lot of love on this team, and that'll show on the field."

The Bills enter 2026 with the usual high expectations, this time under a coach who knows Allen well. Joe Brady takes over as head coach this season after Buffalo moved on from longtime coach Sean McDermott, following years of coming up short. Brady has worked closely with Allen since 2022, first as quarterbacks coach and more recently as offensive coordinator.
Buffalo has also given Allen more weapons to work with this year. The team traded for DJ Moore in March, and the two have reportedly already built a strong connection, while also using a fourth-round pick on UConn standout Skyler Bell in the 2026 NFL Draft. On the other side of the ball, the Bills bolstered their defense with two-time Pro Bowler Bradley Chubb and veteran defensive backs Geno Stone, Dee Alford, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
The pressure is on for this Bills team to get over the hump. And if the roster has already gelled this well this early in preseason, it might be a sign that 2026 is the year Buffalo finally breaks through.
