Portland Trail Blazers have suffered a major setback before the start of the 2026-27 NBA season as Shaedon Sharpe is expected to miss at least six months with a knee injury.
The injury comes at a difficult time for Sharpe, who was coming off the most productive season of his NBA career. The 23-year-old averaged 20.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals across 50 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign.
Sharpe had also established himself as an important part of Portland’s rotation after showing flashes of his potential since being selected seventh overall in the 2022 NBA Draft.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Sharpe sustained a torn meniscus in his knee and is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“Portland Trail Blazers guard Shaedon Sharpe sustained a torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to miss six months, sources tell ESPN,” Charania reported.
Injuries have continued to disrupt his progress. He missed significant time last season with a stress reaction in his left fibula and had previously dealt with an abdominal injury and two labrum tears in his left shoulder.
The latest setback is expected to keep Sharpe out until around the All-Star break, depending on his recovery.
The Trail Blazers will now have to manage without one of their young scoring options as they prepare for the new season.
Portland does have depth in the backcourt, with Damian Lillard returning, while Ja Morant, Scoot Henderson and Jrue Holiday are also expected to compete for minutes.
Still, Sharpe’s absence will be a blow for a player who appeared ready to build on his career-best campaign. The focus now shifts to his recovery and getting him back on the court as soon as possible.
