New details have emerged regarding the allegations that led to the arrest of former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight title challenger-turned desk analyst Anthony Smith .
Smith, 38, was arrested Monday in Nebraska and booked on three felony charges . He appeared before a judge this morning (Weds., July 29, 2026), when his bond was set at $500,000. As a condition of his bond, Smith was ordered to have no contact with his wife. Smith was released from Sarpy County Jail on $500,000 bond today .
Following Smith’s initial court appearance, the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office released additional details to MMAJunkie regarding the allegations.
According to prosecutors, Smith and his wife were involved in an altercation at a bar in Gretna, Neb., on July 26, 2026. Smith allegedly threatened to kill his wife if she did not get into his vehicle and return home with him. Authorities allege that Smith then grabbed her and forced her into the vehicle.
Smith’s wife reportedly exited the vehicle during the drive, at which point he allegedly threatened her again. After they arrived home and she exited the vehicle a second time, Smith allegedly attempted multiple times to strike her with the vehicle. Prosecutors said she was able to avoid the vehicle and was not physically injured during the alleged attempts.
Authorities subsequently issued a warrant for Smith’s arrest. He later turned himself in and was booked into Sarpy County Jail shortly before 9 p.m. Monday.
The criminal complaint lists charges of attempted first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats and first-degree false imprisonment. The attempted domestic assault charge can carry a sentence of between one and 50 years if convicted, while the other two charges can each carry sentences of up to three years.
Smith has not publicly addressed the allegations. He has not been convicted of any offense related to the arrest and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Smith retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) in April 2025 following three consecutive losses to Roman Dolidze , Dominick Reyes and his final opponent, Mingyang Zhang ( watch highlights ), but then later signed with Jorge Masvidal ’s Bare Knuckle MMA promotion as a Heavyweight, where he submitted Chase Sherman in his promotional debut ( watch it ).
