St Helens prop Delaney ruled out for rest of season

St Helens have confirmed George Delaney will miss the remainder of the 2026 season. <p>The prop suffered a shoulder injury against Wigan Warriors on Friday night and has since undergone an operation following assessments this week.</p><p>A Saints statement read: "St Helens will give George our full support and everyone at the club is looking forward to seeing him back in action."</p><ul><li><strong><a href="https://www.nowtv.com/membership/watch-sky-sports?DCMP=ilc_skysports_nc_articlelink">Stream Super League with no contract on NOW</a></strong></li><li><strong><a href="https://www.skysports.com/rugby-league/competitions/betfred-super-league/table">Super League table as Leeds lead the way</a></strong></li><li><strong><a href="https://www.skysports.com/podcasts/36578/11933934/the-bench-with-jenna-and-jon">Listen to The Bench, our rugby league podcast</a></strong></li></ul><widget id="2"></widget><p>Delaney, 22, also confirmed the news on his Instagram on Wednesday, posting a post-operation picture with his arm in a sling.</p><p>"Surgery done gutted my season has come to an end early," he wrote in the caption.</p><p>"Tough few months ahead getting back fit ready for the challenge and looking forward to next year."</p><p>The forward was one of three players taken off during the 38-16 loss to Wigan, with Jed Cartwright picking up a quad issue and Matty Evans failing his HIA.</p> <widget id="4"></widget><p>Delaney has been a key player for Saints this season, playing 20 times and scoring two tries while stepping in for injured senior players.</p><p>He is just two matches away from hitting 100 appearances for Saints, but will have to place reaching that milestone on hold.</p><p>Saints sit seventh in the table, level on points with Hull KR and are looking to avoid missing out on the play-offs for the first time in Super League history.</p> <widget id="3"></widget><p>Last week, head coach Paul Rowley stepped down from his role after navigating the club's injury crisis.</p><p>His assistant Eamon O'Carroll has stepped in as interim coach and his side face York Knights at the LNER Stadium on Saturday evening.</p>
