As the Cleveland Browns ' quarterback competition continues towards Week 1 of the regular season, both Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders got some time in the team's latest preseason game.
It was a home game against the Buffalo Bills, and unfortunately for the Browns, a 31-7 loss. Watson drew boos from the crowd during the game and was asked for his postgame reaction to that portion of the fans.
"Man, I didn't have no reaction. I think the biggest thing is, I think you guys know too, I think the whole world knows, it has nothing to do with the performance. It's a little bit personal than that. I think that's a disrespectful thing. I'm gonna keep whatever I feel with me and my family internally on how I feel about that," Watson told reporters .
"Last time I played on this field, I tore my Achilles, and that same fanbase, they cheered when I get hurt. What does that have to do with anything about performance?" he said when asked if "winning and playing better" might get rid of the booing.

Watson said some fans booing him don't make him regret coming to play for the Browns, although he admitted he had "different thoughts about how it was gonna be" for him in Cleveland. He said he remains "patient" and feels things will turn in the best direction for him, so he wasn't worrying over it.
In Saturday's preseason loss, he completed 5 of 12 passes for 36 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. By comparison, Sanders threw 9 of 11 completed passes for 74 yards and a touchdown with one interception.
Sanders clearly showed the stronger outing in this particular audition, but the final decision on QB1 is made based on practices and preseason performances.
Browns head coach Todd Monken has yet to name a starting quarterback, as they'll have one more preseason game on the slate. They'll host the New England Patriots on Thursday, Aug. 27 in Cleveland, giving fans more opportunities to cheer and boo their players.
Monken indicated that his decision shouldn't extend beyond next week, so by then, fans should have a clearer idea of who their Week 1 starter will be.
Following that, they'll anticipate their regular-season opener on Sunday, Sept. 13, when they visit the Jacksonville Jaguars.
