As the Protect College Sports Act gathers serious momentum, one of the most anticipated provisions in the bill is the one regarding a coach leaving a team mid-season, often referred to as the ‘Lane Kiffin rule’ after he infamously moved from Ole Miss to LSU last season. The latest draft of the Protect College Sports Act appears to highlight this in some detail.
Yahoo! Sports journalist Ross Dellenger obtained copies of the latest draft of the Protect College Sports Act, which appears to show not much has changed: the penalty for a coach leaving a program in the middle of a season is a season-long suspension the following year.
Lane Kiffin had previously decided to leave the Ole Miss Rebels at a crucial time for the program, departing for SEC giants LSU just before the Rebels began their run in the college football playoffs.
The outrage from Ole Miss and several others was among the major reasons an overhaul of college sports was demanded.
Lane Kiffin Receives Shade from Steelers Player
DK Metcalf, who went to play college football at the Ole Miss Rebels, recently threw some shade at Lane Kiffin on the Pat McAfee Show.
“Who?” Metcalf said when asked about how he feels about Lane Kiffin. “About who? We don’t speak on nobody who ain’t inside the organization.”
Lane Kiffin may not have too many friends at Ole Miss because of his controversial decision last season, but his focus is fully on his new home as LSU plans to kick off its college football season with a clash against the Clemson Tigers on Sept. 5 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
