Diamond Heels land commitment from standout JuCo pitcher
Standout pitching was a hallmark of UNC's success on the baseball diamond in 2026, with names like recent MLB Draft pick Jason DeCaro and breakout star Caden Glauber headlining a deep bunch.
Glauber led the Diamond Heels with a perfect 12-0 win-loss record, a near-spotless 2.04 earned run average and team-high 114 strikeouts. DeCaro enjoyed his best season as North Carolina's ace starting pitcher, going 11-3 with a 2.87 ERA and 99 punch-outs.
eOn Sunday, UNC just gained a massive reinforcement in its projected 2027 pitching rotation, with standout JuCo pitcher Major Osbolt committing to Scott Forbes' program.
Osbolt chose the Diamond Heels over 8-time National Champion LSU , a school he de-committed from in November 2025. According to InsideCarolina , Osbolt visited Chapel Hill on July 22, then committed to North Carolina on Sunday.
Coming over from the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, Osbolt started 15 of 17 appearances for Walters State in 2025, compiling a 8-1 win-loss record, 4.56 ERA and 102 strikeouts across 73 innings pitched. Osbolt helped pitch the Senators to an NJCAA World Series appearance, in which they compiled a 1-2 record.

— InsideCarolina (@InsideCarolina) July 26, 2026 Glauber should be UNC's 2027 top pitcher, but Osbolt should replace MLB Draftee Ryan Lynch as the number two starter. Folger Boaz recently announced his return, giving the Diamond Heels a solid, 3-man rotation.
North Carolina will also retain bullpen arms like Walker McDuffie and Jackson Rose, the latter of who could push Boaz from his starting rotation spot. UNC will likely add a few more portal stars, giving itself another roster capable of a deep NCAA Tournament run.
