The Chicago Bears received brutal news on Tuesday afternoon when it was announced that safety Coby Bryant underwent knee surgery that will sideline him four to six months.
Bryant was signed to a three-year, $40 million contract this offseason and was widely expected to play a major role in Chicago's secondary in Dennis Allen's defense. Bryant was injured back on Aug. 3 during a 1-on-1 rep against tight end Cole Kmet, where he landed awkwardly on his left leg and was later carted off the field.
The team will now likely shift to veteran Cam Lewis and recently-signed veteran Xavier Woods to replace Bryant at the position while also giving more opportunity to rookie first-round pick Dillon Thieneman in the secondary.
