Browns Provide Update on Maliek Collins After Months-Long Absence

Maliek Collins missed all of the summer practices and training camp with the Cleveland Browns while recovering from a quad injury suffered in Week 13 of the 2025 season.
That injury forced him to miss the final five games of the regular season and required offseason surgery — a brutal blow for Collins and the Browns, given the veteran defensive tackle was enjoying a career year in his first season in Cleveland.
Collins signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Browns in March 2025. Through the first 12 games of the season, he tallied 25 combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, and a career-high 6.5 sacks. He was legitimately on pace to earn his first career Pro Bowl honor before his season was cut short.
Now, with just over two weeks before the 2026 season kicks off, the Browns officially activated Collins off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on Monday, meaning he can begin practicing with the team again. Cleveland opens Week 1 against the Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 13, in Jacksonville.

With a new head coach in Todd Monken now leading the team and face of the franchise Myles Garrett gone to the Rams, expectations in Cleveland are relatively low for 2026. But it's veterans like Collins who this team will need to step up and provide a steady, consistent presence to keep it competitive. Now fully healthy, Collins can look to recapture his strong form from before the injury and anchor Cleveland's defensive line alongside 2025 first-round pick Mason Graham and Pro Bowler Jared Verse.
