See the full story · 1 sourcesThe Atlanta Falcons released veteran backup quarterback Trevor Siemian with a non-football injury on Wednesday, the team announced. The NFI designation simply means Siemian suffered the injury while away from the team's facility.
Siemian, 34, has spent time with eight teams during his NFL career, which began with the Denver Broncos in 2015. After being picked by the club in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Northwestern, Siemian spent his rookie season as a reserve third-string QB behind Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler. Siemian took over as the club's starter in 2016 and went 13-11 as a starter over the next two seasons before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings in 2018.
Elsewhere on the ex-Bronco front, the Washington Commanders promoted Wes Welker from offensive assistant to tight ends coach this week. The Commanders needed to fill that role after firing old TEs coach Ben Steele , who was arrested last month on a DWI charge.
Washington also signed ex-Denver wide receiver River Cracraft and ex- Broncos punter Matt Haack this week.
