The Boston Red Sox , after their 15-game win streak, got right back in the postseason hunt this year, and now are going to be trade deadline buyers.
They've already shown that willingness to buy, sending Connelly Early to the Washington Nationals for Curtis Mead, a right-handed hitting infielder with some power. But the Red Sox might not be done adding those kinds of hitters.
Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic is predicting that the Red Sox will swing a trade this summer to improve the offense even further. More specifically, McCaffrey is predicting the Red Sox trade for one type of hitter: a right-handed slugger.
Red Sox predicted to trade for righty slugger
"They add a right-handed bat," McCaffrey predicts. "Given their pitching depth through the majors and minors, it wouldn't be out of the question to see the club trading one of their pitching prospects like Kyson Witherspoon or Anthony Eyanson in a package for a bigger-name bat."
The Red Sox might've already added Mead, bolstering their offense from the right side of the plate, but there's more that could be on the horizon.
Caleb Durbin and Mead will man second base and third base, but the shortstop position is still a bit of a question mark. Adding a righty slugger there would make a lot of sense.

Zach Neto of the Los Angeles Angels and Jeremy Pena of the Houston Astros are two players who'd be significant upgrades for their offense from the right side of the plate.
While it might cost a lot to get them, the Red Sox have the ammo and the willingness to swing such a deal. They could also take a chance on someone like Jo Adell of the Angels to add a righty-hitting outfielder as a platoon bat.
Regardless of who the Red Sox wind up going after, McCaffrey is predicting that, even after the Mead trade, Craig Breslow and the Red Sox will acquire a right-handed hitter by the deadline to further improve this offense for a deep postseason run.
