The Boston Red Sox will continue their pursuit of an infielder after Curtis Mead's unfortunate injury.
Traded from the Washington Nationals to the Red Sox for left-hander Connelly Early, Mead was hit by a pitch and fractured his wrist in his first game with the club.
There are a few infielders from the Miami Marlins that Boston's front office may like, reports The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, Will Sammon, and Katie Woo . It seems the Red Sox's focus is to acquire a shortstop.
However, a second baseman may not be out of the question. The Red Sox could re-inquire about a three-time All-Star from the Detroit Tigers .

"Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres also could appeal to the Red Sox, who showed interest in him during the 2024-25 offseason before he signed with the Tigers," The Athletic trio reported.
Torres, 29, has had an uneven season due to injuries. In 52 games, he's hit .270/.383/.392 with five home runs and a .775 OPS.

He is no longer the power hitter he was once during his first few years in the Majors with the New York Yankees . Torres hit a career-high 38 homers in 2019.
"A native of Caracas, Torres would join fellow Venezuelans Wilyer Abreu, Ranger Suárez, Willson Contreras, Carlos Narváez and Andruw Monasterio in Boston," Rosenthal, Sammon, and Woo wrote. "Still, because he no longer plays shortstop, he would be less of a fit."
The Red Sox shouldn't take Torres out of consideration, but if they are looking for a shortstop, he may not be the infield upgrade that makes the most sense for the roster.
