The program is coming off its first College Football Playoff national title and is looking to go back-to-back in 2026. Indiana also has head coach Curt Cignetti locked up for the foreseeable future.
Lately, there’s been a lot of discussion about whether the Big Ten or the SEC is the best conference in college football, and Cignetti put his opinion into the fray on Thursday. Obviously, he’s siding with the Big Ten.

“ We don’t run a hype machine up here in the Midwest ,” Cignetti said during Thursday’s Big Ten Media Days. “We believe everything is earned, not given. When we fall short, we say we fall short. When we don’t win, we don’t cry a river. We don’t whine and complain. That’s why we’re the best.”

As long as Big Ten schools keep winning national titles, you’re going to keep seeing shots taken like this one. The Big Ten has produced the last three national champions dating back to Michigan winning it all during the 2023 season.
The Hoosiers enter the 2026 season with a new quarterback at the helm after Fernando Mendoza was selected first overall by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2026 NFL Draft. Josh Hoover will take over for Mendoza after transferring from the TCU Horned Frogs.
Hoover finished the 2025 season with 3,472 yards through the air, 29 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He also completed nearly 66 percent of his passes.
The Hoosiers will open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against the North Texas Mean Green. Kickoff will be at noon ET.
