Lions' Jackson Meeks Getting Respect at Training Camp

Jackson Meeks is still figuring out exactly what life looks like at tight end, but the Detroit Lions are starting to see enough from him to make the position switch pretty interesting.
Meeks moved full-time from receiver to tight end, so there's naturally still some learning happening. He's been a consistent playmaker for the second-team offense in the passing game, showing that the move hasn't taken away one of his most useful traits.
Blocking is another story. Meeks is still a work in progress in that area, but he's willing to do the work and has shown that he can contribute there. For now, though, his ability to make plays through the air is what's getting the most looks.

Tuesday's practice last week gave him another opportunity to stand out. Per reports, Meeks made two nice catches that helped put the second-team offense in position to win an end-of-practice situational period. That's the kind of work that can start changing how a player is viewed.
It wasn't his first strong moment of camp, either. On Friday, Meeks separated from a defender and had a clear path to what would've been an easy touchdown. The only problem was that quarterback Luke Altmyer threw the ball too high.
But, the chance was there. So was the separation. That's encouraging for a player still learning a new position.
Meeks has potential, but the preseason is going to be important. He'll have the chance to show that the production he's putting together in practice can carry over when the competition gets more real and the games count for something.
The Lions don't need to have everything figured out with him right now. Tight end is still relatively new territory, and there's plenty of room for Meeks to improve as a blocker.

But the passing-game ability is already showing up. That's certainly a great start for Meeks and the Lions.
