Everton are in the process of signing Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard. With the departure of Idrissa Gana Gueye, there was a vacancy in the squad for a defensive midfielder.
The Danish international made his name with Brentford over six seasons, making 196 appearances and was for the last two seasons before his transfer to Arsenal last summer for £10million, and a further £2m in add-ons.
Under Mikel Arteta at the Gunners, Norgaard only featured 20 times, with just seven of those appearances in the Premier League.
Norgaard would be a classic David Moyes signing, with the 32-year-old bringing Premier League experience and veteran savvy to the squad, along with his work rate and gritty playing style.
Per The Athletic, the transfer fee is about £7million, with an agreement in principle between the two teams and the Dane expected to have his medical next week.
While not a long-term solution, Norgaard is a stop-gap – and crucially, cheap – fix for a critical position for the Blues.
