The Commanders revealed they had signed center Trey Hill. In a corresponding move, they released cornerback Tre Hawkins. Hill was one of 10 players that Washington worked out on Saturday.
The Commanders needed to sign a center when starting center Nick Allegretti suffered a calf strain on the first day of training camp. Julian Good-Jones and rookie sixth-round pick Matt Gulbin were the only other centers on the roster, and they have a combined two NFL snaps to their names. Head coach Dan Quinn said Allegretti would be out for around a week.
Hill, 26, played collegiately at the University of Georgia, starting 36 games in three seasons before entering the 2021 NFL Draft. He was a sixth-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals , where he spent the first four seasons of his NFL career. He appeared in 25 games for Cincinnati and made three starts.
