Speaking at Big Ten Media Days, Fleck discussed the concept of "E pluribus unum," which in Latin means "of many become one."
"It's on our dollar bill. It's on our quarter. You should have seen that team meeting, talking Latin to your players," Fleck said about the unifying term.
Fleck took the exercise one step further to take ownership of what the idea really means.
"So we gave every single one of our players, because giving players money is pretty popular, we gave them a dollar bill and a quarter. I don't think they've ever seen either one of those, what they actually looked like, but E pluribus unum was on there and we had a team meeting about that."
Fleck brought the exercise home by consolidating the money in one location, with a special message written by each player.
"So we have the dollar bill, and they wrote on that dollar bill, what are they going to prove to themselves, and then we put it in a jar for a reminder in the front of the team meeting room."
It was one of many unique plays out of the motivational playbook for Fleck, who also told the media that the team watched Artemis 2 and a clip of a John F. Kennedy 1960s speech.
Minnesota's season starts on September 3 against Eastern Illinois , at which time fans will find out whether monetary, interstellar or historical exercises will have made a difference for the Golden Gophers .
