On Thursday, Cam Ward played in the Tennessee Titans’ preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. However, the quarterback’s performance left a lot to be desired heading into his second season with the team.
During his time on the field, Ward completed five of 12 passes for 57 yards and no touchdowns. Under him, the offense stalled following a 95-yard touchdown drive that was capped by a five-yard TD rush from running back Tony Pollard.
Fans on social media expressed their disappointment with Ward’s performance during the game.
The Titans drafted Cam Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Before that, he spent the 2024 campaign with the Miami Hurricanes, helping them finish with a 10-3 (6-2 ACC) record.
As a rookie, Ward was named the team’s starting quarterback last season. In 17 appearances, he threw for 3,169 yards and 15 touchdowns with seven interceptions and took 55 sacks. The Titans finished last in the AFC South with a 3-14 record. Coach Brian Callahan was fired after a 1-5 start in October. Mike McCoy served as the interim coach for the remainder of the season.
In January, the Titans hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as Callahan’s replacement. The team also made changes to its coaching staff, bringing in Brian Daboll as the offensive coordinator and Gus Bradley as the defensive coordinator.
NFL analyst has high expectations for Cam Ward under new OC Brian Daboll
On Thursday, NFL analyst Pete Prisco discussed the Titans’ new offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll.
While speaking about him, Prisco said that Daboll’s presence is a positive for the offense and quarterback Cam Ward.
“I think Brian Daboll taking over this offense is the reason they should be optimistic,” Prisco said on ‘NFL on CBS.’ “I think Brian Daboll is a great offensive coach. There was some flaws on defense when he was with the Giants or some flaws in the way he handled the whole room.
“But strictly as an offensive guy, he’s brilliant. I think he will be great for Cam Ward. I think he will get better. … I like where they’re heading. I just think, right now, any steps forward are good for the Titans.”
The Titans kick off the season with a Week 1 showdown against the New York Jets on Sept. 13.
