Landing a max contract is a career milestone for any WNBA star, but Courtney Williams’ immediate celebration choice will raise more than a few eyebrows.
Courtney Williams has been brilliant for the Minnesota Lynx backcourt after securing a maximum contract extension worth roughly $2.4 million over two years.
Williams was paid $180,000 for the 2025 season. Then she signed a two-year, $2.44 million deal that pays $1.19 million in 2026.
The All-Star guard is backing up that major payday under the league’s historic collective bargaining agreement, which tied player pay directly to revenue and spiked the salary cap nearly fivefold.
With average league wages jumping to over $580,000, Williams is cashing in while staying absolute money from the mid-range and steering the offense. Posting around 14.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, she’s helping the Lynx maintain their spot at the top of the WNBA.

ESPN asked a whole range of WNBA superstars what they spent their money on after signing new deals under the CBA agreement.
Sophie Cunningham invested her money into properties that she can rent out, but Minnesota Lynx’s Courtney Williams had other ideas.
She said: “I went to the strip club and blew a bag. No, I’m being dead serious. Like, that particular strip club will never see me for the rest of my life. Like, I did too much in there.
“Man, they probably know me by my name.”
Just to rattle off a few others, Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull bought herself a Tesla, Las Vegas Aces forward Kierstan Bell wants an oversized truck and Rhyne Howard went straight into Louis Vuitton.
