One of sports media ‘s biggest names, Pat McAfee, found himself at the center of attention Tuesday night after making an unexpected appearance alongside President Donald Trump at the inaugural Patriot Games.
McAfee was a surprise guest of honor for the final round of the competition, joining Trump for the event in Cleveland. His appearance quickly generated plenty of reaction, prompting McAfee to address the situation and defend his decision on his show Wednesday.

McAfee joins Trump for Patriot Games finale

He greeted Trump on the tarmac outside Air Force One and participated in a photo opportunity before later joining the president for his walkout.
McAfee then sat alongside Trump during the competition’s finale.
The Patriot Games were organized through the administration’s Freedom 250 initiative, with ESPN involved in broadcasting the event. ESPN aired the competition on its app and is scheduled to broadcast an hourlong primetime special Thursday covering the event.
Executives from ESPN’s parent company Disney were also in attendance for the finale.

McAfee pushes back at critics
McAfee discussed the experience during his Wednesday show , speaking positively about the Patriot Games while also addressing criticism surrounding his decision to appear alongside Trump.
The longtime sports media personality made it clear that he believes in encouraging young people to stay active and participate in sports, regardless of the political reaction that may come with his involvement.
McAfee said critics have said “terrible things” about his children simply because he wants to encourage high school students to be fit and active.
That appears to be a major reason why McAfee felt compelled to address the backlash.
Regardless of where people stand politically, McAfee’s appearance alongside Trump has once again demonstrated how easily the worlds of sports, entertainment and politics can collide.
For McAfee, however, the message he wanted to emphasize was much simpler: encouraging young people to compete, stay active and take care of themselves.
