The rivalry between Donald Trump and LeBron James has taken another turn after Stephen A. Smith suggested there may be a deeper, lesser-known motivation.
LeBron James and Donald Trump’s rift has been playing out in public for years, and it’s rarely been subtle.
Things really boiled over back in 2017 when LeBron famously called Trump a “bum” on social media after the president withdrew a White House invitation for the Warriors.
From there, it became a running battle. LeBron didn’t hold back on calling out Trump’s stance on race and social issues, while Trump routinely took shots at LeBron’s intelligence and threw shade by claiming he preferred Michael Jordan.
And his latest tirade about LeBron even saw him labelled as a ‘racist’.
Stephen A. Smith points to LeBron James’ political views
Prominent American sports television personality Stephen A. Smith has given his hot take on the situation involving Donald Trump and LeBron James on his YouTube channel.
He claims that Trump’s opposition to LeBron originates from the political path that the Philadelphia 76ers newbie has taken, specifically mentioning the Clintons and Barack Obama.
He had this to say:
“You’re the president of the United States and you’re going to come out and call this black man a racist.
“Would that be because LeBron James endorsed Hilary Clinton in 2016 and then endorsed Biden in 2020, and then endorsed Kamala Harris in 2024? It could be. Last time I checked, the only democratic candidate LeBron James ever really stood up for was Barack Obama.
“Everything since then has basically been anti-Trump.”
We saw Trump’s involvement with soccer at the 2026 World Cup go over the top too, getting involved with FIFA to overturn a red card when he had no right to get politics involved.
