Malik Nabers continues progressing in the right direction.
The star wide receiver was able to take another step at Giants practice on Monday afternoon, shedding the red non-contact jersey for the first time in his recovery.
Big Blue wasn't practicing in full pads so it still wasn’t a full contact session for Nabers, but it certainly was another encouraging step forward.
“I thought he looked good,” head coach John Harbaugh said. “Moving well, probably the best we’ve seen him -- it was a good practice for him today, a good step.”
Harbaugh still wasn’t ready to commit one way or the other on Nabers’ status for Week 1, but did say it’s reasonable to assume he should be ready to roll.
“Those are all things you can assume just based on watching practice,” he said. “He’s doing really well, he’s strong, he’s in a good place -- but how how ready he is to play and protect himself is really based on practice.”
Nabers took three reps at 7-on-7 and three more at 11-on-11, and he hauled in receptions during both of them.
Whenever he does return at 100 percent, the former first-round pick figures to slide right back in as second-year QB Jaxson Dart ’s go-to target for this offense.
The two connected a total of 13 times for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns in just three games before Nabers went down with the season-ending injury last year.
Having him back out there for the opener against the Cowboys would be a ginormous boost.
