The New York Giants have opened training camp in preparation for the 2026 NFL season and one of the more intriguing positions to follow is at wide receiver.
The team has Malik Nabers back on the field following a torn ACL that shut him down last season and he is making huge progress toward being able to be in the lineup in Week 1. The team also brought in veteran free agents Calvin Austin III, Darnell Mooney and Juju Smith-Schuster, but the big news was the return of Odell Beckham .
It sets up for an interesting battle in training camp for positioning on the depth chart, but one player who has become all but forgotten is 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt. Big things were expected from Big Blue of the now-24-year-old wide receiver coming out of college, but in three seasons with the team, he's caught just 36 passes. It seems unlikely that he will make this year's 53-man roster.
Rather than just dump him to the waiver wire at the end of the preseason, the Giants should be shopping him around to see if there is a team that wants to take a shot on what he could still have to offer. Recently, a team in the NFC may have risen to the forefront following an injury to one of their own young wide receivers.
The San Francisco 49ers recently announced that their former first-round pick Ricky Pearsall will undergo season-ending surgery after aggravating a knee injury that has been nagging since last season in the first week of training camp. The 49ers are a team that seems to be routinely snakebitten by the injury bug and Pearsall being out for the entire season is a tough blow for them.
The 49ers recently agreed to terms on a deal to bring Deebo Samuel back to San Francisco, but with the ongoing saga of Brandon Aiyuk , it's fair to suggest that the team will need more. Hyatt hasn't done anything to suggest that he would offer great depth at the position, but the 49ers could be willing to part with a sixth or seventh-round pick in order to take a flier on him.

Under that scenario, the Giants would get at least something in return for the player they invested a premium pick on just three short years ago. With this year's third-round pick Malachi Fields already turning heads in training camp , the team has what it needs at the position going forward and there is no room for Hyatt there any longer.
