Over the years, Rudy Gobert has been known around NBA circles as one of the best defenders. He even won four Defensive Player of the Year awards in his career, but it seems he does not get the respect that this kind of player often gets.
Players like Ben Wallace or Dwight Howard are often seen as titans of the game. They were brick walls that players were afraid of, but that is not the case for Gobert, who is on the same level, or even better than, those defensive stalwarts.
Chris Finch sees Rudy Gobert as a surefire Hall of Famer
Gobert was impressive during his days with the Utah Jazz , and that carried over to his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves . In recent years, Gobert has been a reliable paint protector, and head coach Chris Finch knows that his center is such a useful player.
Unfortunately, he has a reputation that precedes him, as a lot of players in the league dislike him. That has bled into the NBA community because he is quite an unpopular figure among NBA fans despite his amazing impact on the court, especially on defense.

Finch believes that Gobert deserves way more respect than he gets. He is one of the league's best defenders, and that will continue to be the case as long as he is on top of his game. Considering he does not need to be super athletic to be impactful, it seems Gobert's game will age well.
"All the things Rudy does at a very high level in the background aren’t always recognized. His mistakes, on the other hand, are very visible, so it’s easy for people to point them out. I think it’s unfortunate how much criticism he receives... He’s confident, and he has every reason to believe he’s a good player because he really is. He’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer," Finch said on Road Trippin' .
Unfortunately, his reputation has taken enough blows to remain permanent. A lot of people will continue to discredit him, but thankfully, he has built a resume that is undeniable. He will most likely get inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and it will be a deserved achievement.
