Brewers Among Six Teams Interested in Padres' Miller
It comes as no surprise that there is a ton of competition to bring in San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller at this year's trade deadline.
Days after ESPN 's Jeff Passan said that Miller's trade market is "incredible," he expanded on what he meant and listed the six teams that are currently engaging in talks with the Padres.
The Milwaukee Brewers are absolutely interested, but they seemingly never pull off big moves like this as buyers, especially during the regular season.
Other teams Passan listed include the New York Yankees , Seattle Mariners , Pittsburgh Pirates , Tampa Bay Rays , and Philadelphia Phillies .
Brewers must be willing to give up whoever Padres want
One of the biggest caveats that comes with this trade is the fact that Passan said the Padres have told teams "if you want access to Mason Miller, then nobody is off limits in your organization."
Obviously, the Brewers have a few untouchables . Sure, they have the top farm system in all of baseball, but that doesn't mean they're going to want to give up three of their prized prospects to bring in a guy that would take over Trevor Megill's spot.
Remember, Miller is under team control from 2027-2029. This is a very team-friendly deal, and he's only costing the Padres $4 million here in 2026.
The Brewers have some great arms in the back half of their bullpen, but it's not often a guy like Miller becomes available. Sure, they'll have to go through arbitration these next three seasons if they want to keep him around, but that's something Milwaukee should be more than willing to do if they aren't forced to completely deplete their farm system.
Brewers have what the Padres want
Out of the six teams Passan listed, there's arguably no better trade partner than the Brewers. That said, this team needs to take a look in the mirror and ask themselves how important Miller is when they already have Megill and Abner Uribe.
That's not to say those two are on Miller's level, but the Brewers have made it crystal clear they're looking to add to their starting rotation at the deadline, and rightfully so. With so many injuries to their starters, would a move like this prevent them from adding to the team elsewhere?
Milwaukee seems to be in on Miller, at least for the time being. They're obviously going to be smart, but it could include dealing a guy like Luis Pena , at the very least, in order to acquire the 27-year-old closer.
