Mililani scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning and Ezra Pule-Nicholas pitched six solid innings of relief in a 4-2 victory over Egg Harbor Township, N.J., in the final of the Babe Ruth (age 13) World Series on Saturday in Jamestown, N.Y.
Mililani, the Pacific Southwest champion, went up 2-1 with one out in the eighth when Justice Ryder Gabrillo scored on an error by the Egg Harbor pitcher. Pule-Nicholas then hit a two-out single, which scored Logan Kawakami and Chaysten Fuentes.
Egg Harbor, the Mid-Atlantic champion, scored one run in the bottom of the eighth.
Lowen Badayos-Asanion opened with two shutout innings for Mililani. Pule-Nicholas went the rest of the way, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Mililani took a 1-0 lead in the third on Fuentes’ single, which scored Kawakami.
Mililani went 6-0 in the 11-team tournament and outscored its opponents 40-7.
UH soccer beats Idaho for first victory
Anuhea Aluli and Olivia Dianda scored as the Hawaii women’s soccer team recorded its first victory of the season — a 2-0 triumph over Idaho in the Outrigger Invitational on Saturday at UH lower campus field.
Aluli scored at 23:49 off an assist from Piper Bertani and Dianda scored at 78:58.
Kennedy Justin made six saves for the Rainbow Wahine (1-3), while Paula Flores made one for the Vandals (2-1-1).
UH Hilo, Chaminade volleyball teams swept
The Hawaii Hilo and Chaminade women’s volleyball teams were swept Saturday during the Hawaii-Alaska Challenge at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
Haylee Lyons had 12 kills, and Ashlyn White recorded 12 assists and four aces as No. 16 Alaska beat Hilo 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 in the championship match.
Alohi Garcia and Kaliko Kealoha each had 10 kills, and ‘Anolani Santos posted 29 assists for the Vulcans (2-1).
