Henry, however, continues to operate by a different set of rules. Entering his 11th NFL season, the Baltimore Ravens ' workhorse has already built a Hall of Fame resume. Yet there are several reasons to believe one of football's most productive backs could still have another special season ahead.
History is within Derrick Henry's reach and attainable
Henry isn't simply chasing another Pro Bowl appearance. He's chasing a Super Bowl, and along the way, he may climb history's ladder. The veteran has rushed for at least 1,500 yards in five of the past seven seasons, tying Hall of Famer Barry Sanders for the most such campaigns in NFL history.
Another 1,500-yard season would give Henry sole possession of that remarkable distinction . His consistency has been equally impressive. Henry has topped 1,000 rushing yards in seven of the past eight seasons, and one can reasonably argue that Baltimore still has room to feature him even more. If the Ravens ' offensive line takes another step forward in 2026, another historic season isn't difficult to envision.
The touchdowns never stop coming
Finding the end zone has become second nature. Henry has scored at least 10 rushing touchdowns in eight consecutive seasons, one of the NFL's most remarkable streaks regardless of position.
Last season was another reminder of what he remains capable of producing. Henry rushed for 1,595 yards, averaged 5.2 yards per carry and found the end zone 16 times, continuing to punish defenses with the same combination of power and speed that has defined his career.
Durability remains one of his greatest strengths
Running backs aren't supposed to age this gracefully. Henry continues doing exactly that. Since the end of the 2022 season, he has been available for 67 of a possible 68 regular-season games while also appearing in two postseason contests.
Despite playing one of football's most physically demanding positions, there have been few visible signs that wear and tear have diminished his effectiveness. That type of durability has become almost as impressive as his production. This is truly what we mean when we call someone a 'freak of nature'.
Lamar Jackson makes life easier
Henry also benefits from something many elite running backs never enjoy. Sharing the backfield with Lamar Jackson changes everything. Defenses can't simply crowd the line of scrimmage when Jackson's ability to beat them with both his arm and his legs demands equal attention.
That often creates lighter defensive fronts and running lanes that few backs get to exploit. Henry certainly deserves the credit for what he's accomplished, but Baltimore's offensive environment gives him every opportunity to continue thriving. Father Time eventually catches every running back. For now, Derrick Henry continues making him wait, and the results have been fun to watch.
