Ericsson will remain with the team for the fourth consecutive season, as it will retain its full-time IndyCar lineup of Ericsson, Kyle Kirkwood and Will Power in its third full season under full ownership of TWG Motorsports.
Ericsson's third season with Andretti Global has been noticeably better than his first two. He finished 15th in the IndyCar championship in 2024 and 20th in 2025, but the 2022 Indianapolis 500 champion currently sits ninth through two-thirds of this season despite not finishing two races due to technical failures. His best finish came at World Wide Technology Raceway, where he placed second behind Josef Newgarden on the short oval.
"I’m really excited about the contract extension," Ericsson said in a news release. "I think it’s been a good year for us. We’ve really been turning things around after last year, and we’ve put in a lot of hard work, and that’s really been paying off. The results haven’t always gone our way this year, but I feel like we’ve been competitive and in the mix on every type of track. That makes me excited for next year and to be able to build on the momentum we’ve created this year."
Coming into the year, it was thought that Ericsson's seat may be replaced by Dennis Hauger if Ericsson had another disappointing season. Andretti Global is loaning the rights to Hauger's current contract to Dale Coyne Racing for his rookie IndyCar season after Hauger won the Indy NXT championship for Andretti Global in 2025. Hauger, who is 20th in the championship standings, has declined to reveal if Andretti Global has the rights to his deal for 2027 and beyond, but the Ericsson extension solidifies that he won't be with the team next year.
Andretti Global is one of three teams known to be bringing back its full-time lineup in 2027, as Ed Carpenter Racing (Alexander Rossi and Christian Rasmussen) and Team Penske (Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin and David Malukas) will have the same continuity.
"One of our priorities has been building consistency across our IndyCar program, and bringing Marcus back is an important part of that," Andretti Global president Jill Gregory said. "He’s shown exactly what he’s capable of this season through the speed and results he’s delivered. Keeping our driver lineup together next season allows us to build on the chemistry and performance we’ve established as a team."
Now, Ericsson will complete the last six races of the year knowing he'll be back in 2027. He is still in search of his first win with the team after winning four races during his tenure at Chip Ganassi Racing from 2020 to 2023.
